Items from the garden city were found in the trailer, which didn't have a license plate. Police told the driver, identified as Jeremy Johnson, to exit the truck because he was under arrest.
Instead of surrendering, Johnson allegedly started his truck and drove away while one of the officers was still at the driver's door. As the truck sped away, the officer was struck, and his legs were run over by the trailer.
Dashboard camera footage captured Johnson fleeing the traffic stop.
With the help of neighboring agencies, police pursused Johnson, and the trailer littered landscaping tools as he drove into Detroit. Johnson allegedly tried to run into several police vehicles while fleeing, and at least one cruiser and Johnson's trailer were damaged during the chase.
Once the vehicle pursuit ended, Johnson fled on foot. But he was quickly apprehended.
Johnson suffered minor injuries during the chase, and he was booked into Macomb County Jail after he was treated at the hospital. The injured officer also was treated and released from the hospital.
Johnson faces multiple charges, including police officer fleeing second degree and breaking and entering—entry without breaking with intent. His cash bond was set at $1 million.
