Watch Fla. Officer Risk Life to Pull Man from Burning Car

Nov. 23, 2021
"Without the heroic actions of the officer …, we would have been dealing with a death," said a Hallandale Beach police captain about the daring rescue that happened after a car caught fire after a crash.

A Florida police officer braved flames to save a man trapped in a car that caught fire following an accident.

The Hallandale Beach Police Department released footage of the rescue this week. The footage shows an officer reaching into the vehicle, which was engulfed in flames, and pull out the victim by his leg.

“The car is on the verge of exploding and the victim is inside he can’t get himself out,” Capt. Pedro Abut told WPLG-TV. “It is very dramatic when you see that officer pulling the leg of the victim out. It’s almost like that victim was stuck in that car. One hundred percent, ultimately, without the heroic actions of the officer exposing his body, pulling on his leg, we would have been dealing with a death.”

Abut called the rescue and the video footage an "astute analysis of highly trained Hallandale Beach police officers taking action to save a man’s life."
