Mayor John Dodd praised his police department for their recent efforts in fighting drug trafficking in the Tri-Cities area at a recent meeting.

"I have two inspired young men, Chief Drew Woods and officer Britt Ross, and since they have been here they have put a dent in the drug trafficking in the city," said Dodd. "They are good with the public and do a great job. We have officer Bob Clay on the weekends and he does a good job too."

Dodd told council members that the officers had recently helped apprehend a fugitive from Canada, Mohammed Abdulle, who was wanted there on a murder charge.

Woods said Abdulle was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and two counts of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance. He told them ICE had also placed a detainer against Abdulle since he is an illegal immigrant.

"It was a good arrest for everyone involved," said Woods. "Tennessee State Police and U.S. Marshals were all looking for him on the murder charge. We got a call from Lynch Police Chief Mike Nunley telling us the DEA in Appalachia, Va., had called and said Abdulle was heading in our direction."

Woods said he, Ross, Nunley, Lynch Officer Drew Wilson and a UNITE officer began setting up road blocks and checking vehicles. He said they finally figured out the fugitive had switched vehicles and with that information were able to apprehend him without incident. Woods told council members approximately $3,000 in crack cocaine was confiscated during the incident taking it off the streets of the Tri-Cities area.
