A Valley Center police officer was injured in a house fire this morning near Valley Center in northern Sedgwick County.

Fire crews were dispatched to the fire in the 3900 block of W. 89th St. North around 7:45 a.m. Saturday.

Sedgwick County Fire Division Chief Stew Segraves said crews arrived to the house with flames visible from a collapsed roof.

The occupants of the house were not injured, Segraves said.

A Valley Center police officer was treated Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis for smoke inhalation and was later released. The officer may have entered the house because he was told there was another person in it when he arrived, Segraves said.

A cause of the fire has not been determined but the fire started on the exterior of the house, he said. Damage to the house and its contents is estimated at $60,000, he said.
