West Virginia State Police are taking a different approach to recruiting the agency's 62nd Cadet Class.
Led by Col. Jay Smithers, State Police will be working with the state Legislature and community leaders to identify the best candidates from within their counties.
Currently, Wyoming, McDowell and Pleasants counties do not have a trooper living within their borders.
Smithers said Friday the most successful law enforcement officers are actively involved in their communities. A concerted effort will be made to ensure troopers are able to serve and become community stakeholders in the areas they reside in.
Cadet testing dates are available online at www.wvstatepolice.com.
