WASHINGTON -- The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund hosted the inaugural “Pathways in Criminal Justice” Career Fair Series event on Feb. 18 at the National Law Enforcement Museum, drawing more than 200 aspiring professionals, community members and law enforcement leaders.

Held during free admission hours, the event connected attendees with representatives from municipal police departments, sheriff’s offices, state and federal corrections agencies, highway patrol, transit and campus police, tribal agencies, and federal partners. Participating federal agencies included the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the United States Marshals Service, the Department of Homeland Security and the United States Secret Service.

According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, the Career Fair Series is intended to strengthen recruitment efforts and build public trust by creating direct access between agencies and the communities they serve. For departments facing staffing shortages and increased hiring competition, such outreach initiatives offer an opportunity to engage qualified candidates and highlight career pathways across policing and corrections.

Programming for the first event coincided with Black History Month and included a panel discussion in the Museum’s Verizon Theater recognizing the 50-year legacy of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. The program, titled “Forged in Struggle, Empowered by Strength, Defining Our Future,” examined leadership, accountability and community trust in public safety.

Renée Hall, National President of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives and former Chief of Police of the Dallas Police Department, delivered the keynote address.

“Leadership in those moments is not about titles or tactics. It is about presence. It is about listening. It is about moral courage,” Hall said, reflecting on the demands of guiding communities through challenging periods in modern policing.

A second installment of the Career Fair Series is scheduled for March 18. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund said the event will be presented in partnership with the National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives, the 30×30 Initiative, Women in Federal Law Enforcement and the Mid-Atlantic Association of Women in Law Enforcement, with programming centered on Women’s History Month.

Confirmed exhibiting agencies for the series include municipal and county departments across Virginia and Maryland, as well as federal partners and regional agencies. The March 18 event will also be held at the National Law Enforcement Museum.

For law enforcement leaders, the series represents a coordinated recruitment and community engagement strategy at a time when many agencies are reassessing hiring pipelines, workforce diversity goals and long-term staffing sustainability.
