MI Police Officer Shot, Wounded Trying to Make Traffic Stop

A Muskegon Heights police officer drove himself to the hospital after he was injured by gunfire during a chase will he was trying to pull over a driver.

A Michigan police officer was shot while trying to make a traffic stop over the weekend.

The incident happened last Saturday in Muskegon Heights, WXMI-TV reports. The officer tried to pull a car over, but the driver didn't stop, and a chase ensued.

During the chase, shots were fired, and the officer was wounded. The officer drove himself to the hospital, where he was treated for injuries that weren't considered life-threatening and released Sunday 

“He’s doing well," Chief Maurice Sain told WXMI. "His spirits are up."

The car was recovered by other law enforcement agencies, but the suspect is still at large.
