Georgia Sheriff's Deputy Recovering After Ambush Attack

Lamar County Sheriff's Deputy Justyn Weaver responded to a call of a suspicious person just after 10 p.m. Saturday when he was met with multiple shotgun blasts.

ATLANTA -- A Lamar County Sheriff's deputy is recovering after he was shot and wounded in an ambush attack Saturday night.

Deputy Justyn Weaver responded to a call of a suspicious person just after 10 p.m. on Moore Street in Milner when he was met with multiple shotgun blasts to his vehicle, according to a news release.

Weaver sustained injuries to his face and left arm and was flown to a hospital in Atlanta. Weaver has been employed with the Lamar County Sheriffs Office for 3 years and recently received an award by Community Ambulance for his heroic acts in saving a mans life.

The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Donald Chandler Gordy 38, fled the scene in a white pickup truck and was later arrested by members of the St. Clair county Sheriff's Office in Alabama on I-20.

Lamar County Sheriffs Investigators have obtained an aggravated assault warrant for Gordy, who was being held in Alabama pending extradition.
