Video: Baltimore Police Rescue Hostage After SWAT Sniper Shoots Gunman

Baltimore police saved a woman held hostage earlier this month when a SWAT officer fatally shot the gunman who had opened fire earlier and wounded another officer.

The incident happened just before noon March 10 when police were called to a home for a burglary, the Baltimore Police Department stated in a news release. When officers reached the house, they encountered gunfire and learned that a 33-year-old suspect—identified as Jonathan Ingram—and two women were inside.

One of the women, who Ingram's niece, jumped from a balcony into the backyard, and body camera footage shows officers carrying her to safety. More shots were fired from a window, and an officer was struck in the left thigh by gunfire.

In the footage, officers are seen quickly assessing their injured colleague and applying a tourniquet to his leg. He was then rushed to the hospital and has since been released, according to CBS News. 

Finally, a SWAT sniper opened fire and struck Ingram when he appeared in a window in the home. Video footage from the department's aviation unit captured the moments surrounding the shooting

Police stormed the home and found Ingram dead, with a handgun next to him. Officers also removed the woman from the home.

Both women were injured during the incident. They were taken to a hospital and were expected to recover.

The shooting is under investigation.
