The Houston Metro Transit Authority Police Department has a new custom C-45X-4 Mobile Command Unit from Frontline Communications.

The unit is part of a collaborative project between the Texas police agency and Frontline Communications, a division of Pierce Manufacturing, Inc., to create a next-generation mobile command unit geared to the department's operational needs, according to a news release from the corporation. The vehicle is designed as a centralized support platform for law enforcement operations across the city, including incident management, communications and multi-agency coordination.

“The mobile operations command center allows us to bring police services directly into the communities we serve,” said Chief Ban Tien. “It increases visibility and gives residents a more accessible way to connect with officers, report concerns and engage in real-time. This is about meeting people where they are and strengthening response coordination, education and partnership across the transit system.”

Built on a Freightliner 114SD Plus commercial chassis, features that are part of the mobile command unit include:

• a fully integrated communications and technology center equipped with cellular and satellite connectivity, advanced audio-visual systems and interoperable communications capabilities.
• a 42-foot telescoping mast with thermal imaging, integrated 360-degree perimeter cameras and a network video recorder (NVR).
• multiple slide-out sections to expand the interior workspace.

"This mobile command unit is designed to deliver versatility, helping Houston Metro Transit Authority Police coordinate operations effectively while maintaining a strong presence in the communities they serve," said Randy Upton, law enforcement sales representative for Siddons-Martin Emergency Group, which facilitated the vehicle's sale.
