COACHELLA, California -- A manhunt was launched Thursday night after a Riverside County County deputy was wounded in a shooting.
The deputy was shot in the head and shoulder after he attempted to pull over a vehicle that failed to yield around 7:30 p.m., according to The Desert Sun.
The unidentified deputy was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials described the shooter as a Hispanic male in his late 20s or early 30s who is about 5'9" and weighs approximately 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.
Police closed portions of Tyler Street in an attempt to contain the suspect and helicopter hovered over the area.
Residents who lived in the area were encouraged to stay in their homes and report anything suspicious.
