A video recorded by a resident shows a confrontation in which police officers in Fort Collins, Colorado shot a man armed with a replica gun.

The incident began after officers responded to a disturbance call in the area of Dunbar Avenue and Hastings Drive at around 8 a.m. after a caller who identified himslef as Austin Snodgrass told police he came out of his room to discover someone stabbing his roommate, according to KMGH-TV.

There was no evidence of a disturbance inside the home and officials said the call was a hoax. Officers say that when they approached the home, Snodgrass came out with a gun in hand and confronted them.

The video shows Snodgrass come out with his right-hand raised near shoulder level. That's when one of the officers fires his weapon several times.

It was later discovered that Snodgrass was carrying a pellet gun that was a replica of a Walther handgun.

Snodgrass was taken to Medical Center of the Rockies and remains in critical condition. The officers were uninjured in the incident.

The shooting is currently under investigation.
