A man with a badge around his neck didn’t fool a Pa. resident with a gun in his pocket. The resident, who was bound by zip ties, managed to grab his gun and opened fire on two home invaders posing as cops, killing one of them, police tell 6ABC.
It happened around 10 p.m. Sunday in Philly, where police say a 25-year-old resident was confronted outside his home by two men posing as cops. The man with a badge around his neck forced the male resident inside the home, where he was bound with zip ties.
The fake cops were demanding money and threatening his life. But the resident was able to get his pocketed gun, and he shot the man with the badge three times, killing him, police said. The dead suspect had gunshot wounds to his head, neck and arm, according to FOX29.
The other suspect fled on foot and remains at large, 6ABC reports.
The incident occurred on the 7200 block of Battersby Street in the city’s Mayfair section.
Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told this to 6ABC:
“They tied his hands with zip ties around his back and threatened to kill him if he made any sudden moves. That’s when our victim realized these individuals were not police officers.”
The tables quickly turned on the would-be home invaders once the resident was able to get his gun.
The male resident and a woman who was also inside the home at the time were taken to the homicide division to make statements in the case, 6ABC writes.
FOX29 reports the resident legally owned the gun. No charges have been filed in the case.
The investigation and the hunt for the second suspect continues.
