KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller Tuesday released police dashcam video that shows one of his deputies being shot during a traffic stop that ended with two chases and three people in custody.

Fuller said Deputy Jeff Nichols stopped a truck with Christopher and Billy Wright and another unnamed person inside after they ran a red light. When Nichols was right next to the driver's side window, shots are fired at him. Nichols immediately returned fire as the truck sped away.

Tuesday afternoon, Bill Wright will be charged with nine counts, including assault with intent to murder, which carries a possible life sentence. Jessica Carpenter, Wright's girlfriend, faces accessory after the fact to a felony. Monday, Christopher Wright was charged with resisting and obstructing an officer.

Police say the night was frantic and unpredictable. Their truck was later found 40 minutes after the shooting in a neighborhood about a mile away.

Police say the brothers were taken by an acquaintance to meet Carpenter. They say the three of them made several stops in Carpenter's Jeep Liberty before police eventually located the Jeep and began chasing them. At one point they sped through a playground area near Portage Northern High School, where police say Carpenter was let out.

The brothers eventually crashed the Jeep into a fence and house. The brothers ran off and hid in separate locations. Christopher was later found inside a truck at a home on Mt. Vernon Avenue in Portage.

Billy was found hiding in an unattached garage where police say he set a fire inside before hot-wiring a Ford Tempo and driving it through the door to escape. Police later arrested him after a 25-mile chase that ended on I-94 in Calhoun County.

Prosecutor Jeff Fink does not anticipate new charges in the immediate future. Carpenter and Billy Wright will be formally arraigned Tuesday afternoon.
