Texas Police Officer Shot when Gunman Opens Fire at Border Patrol Office

An armed suspect in tactical gear was fatally shot after he opened fire at the U.S. Border Patrol Rio Valley Sector, wounding a McAllen police officer in the knee and injuring several other officers.

The border patrol stations within the Rio Grande Valley Sector are located in Brownsville, Fort Brown Station, Weslaco, Harlingen, McAllen, Rio Grande City, Falfurrias, Kingsville and Corpus Christi, Texas, according to the website. The service area covers more than 34,000 square miles of Southeast Texas.

The Texas counties included in the service are Cameron, Willacy, Hidalgo, Starr, Brooks, Kenedy, Kleberg, Nueces, San Patricio, Jim Wells, Bee, Refugio, Calhoun, Goliad, Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson, Matagorda, Brazoria, Galveston, Chambers, Jefferson, Wharton, Fort Bend, Colorado, Austin, Waller, Montgomery, Liberty, Hardin, Orange, Harris, Aransas and Lavaca.
