Masked gunmen pretending to be law enforcement officers broke into a home in northeast Houston and shot a man in the face Friday.

Masked gunmen pretending to be law enforcement officers broke into a home in northeast Houston and shot a man in the face Friday, police said.

Investigators said at 1:30 a.m., four to six men showed up at the home on North Wayside at Way and banged on the front door, claiming to be ATF agents.

Police said a grandmother, her son and her grandson were inside the home. The grandson opened the door and investigators said one of the armed men shot the grandson in the face.

Officials said the gunmen then took the grandson upstairs to where the grandmother and her son were sleeping and tied up all three.

During the home invasion, investigators said the gunmen demanded money, but it is unclear whether they actually got away with any money or property.

The grandson was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital in serious but stable condition.

Officers said the family was unable to identify their attackers because the gunmen wore masks, but they said the men spoke with accents.
