ROSEVILLE, Michigan -- A 31-year-old Roseville woman is in police custody after her child stopped breathing after finding und and swallowing heroin before she was revived Saturday morning, police said.

Michigan State Police said the a trooper patrolling the area of Little Mack Avenue and Masonic Boulevard about 10:30 a.m. when he was flagged down by a "frantic" motorist, who told him her baby was not breathing.

According to MSP, as the trooper approached the car the woman was driving, she handed him her 18-month-old daughter seeking help. As the state trooper performed a sternum rub on the child, he called for EMS and backup units.

The little girl began to slowly breathe. EMS arrived and began to work on the child.

"A quick investigation revealed the child ingested some heroin and was administered a dose of Narcan," MSP said in a statement.

Authorities said the child began breathing much better after receiving Narcan. She was rushed to the hospital where she is in in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Investigators checked the mother, and found 15 does of powder heroin inside red and black capsules, which she attempted to hide from police.

Police said the mother is in the Macomb County Jail in Mount Clemens. The children remained at the hospital for treatment and placement by Childrens Protective Services.

The matter is expected to be reviewed by the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office on Monday.
