RICHMOND COUNTY, Georgia -- The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division responded to a single-vehicle crash at, where a vehicle left the roadway and struck the front of the King Wine and Spirits building.
A Georgia State Patrol trooper arrived on scene as deputies were being dispatched at 2423 Milledgeville Road at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 22, and found the driver unresponsive and not breathing, according to a news release.
The trooper administered naloxone (Narcan) and initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The driver regained consciousness and became alert but irritated, a response law enforcement officials said can occur following overdose reversal.
The driver sustained minor injuries related to the collision and was not wearing a seatbelt when the airbag deployed, according to investigators. The driver was transported to AUMC Wellstar for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery. Medical staff administered an additional dose of Narcan as part of continued care.
Before transport, the driver admitted to having taken Percocet, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies are handling the investigation under case number 26-015007.
In a statement, Chief Lewis Blanchard credited the Georgia State Patrol trooper’s actions during the response. Troop Commander Sgt. Brad Eagler was notified of the incident, the sheriff’s office said.
