A shoplifting suspect tried to escape Ohio police last week by clinging to the side of a moving SUV and trying to gain control of the vehicle.

The incident happened July 27 when Miami Township tried pull over two suspects in connection with a shoplifting report at Kroger in Miamisburg, WDTN-TV reports. During the stop, one of the suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Traffic camera footage captured the suspect is seen running across an Interstate 75 on-ramp while being pursued by an officer, who takes a spill during the foot chase. The suspect reached the interstate and grabbed onto the side of an SUV, which continued driving.

While hanging onto the side of the vehicle, the suspect shattered the windshield and tried get control of the SUV, according to WDTN. But the suspect couldn't hang on to the SUV and finally fell off.

Miamisburg police arrested the suspect, who was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries. He was charged with aggravated robbery, theft and obstructing official business.

The second shoplifting suspect also was arrested, and he pleaded not guilty to complicity to theft.

No officers or civilians were injured in the incident.
