A Southern Tier woman has been arrested for allegedly stabbing two New York State Troopers during a traffic stop.
Police said Julia Groff, 31, of Bolivar, “violently resisted” troopers while they were performing a vehicle and traffic stop after locating a stolen vehicle in Allegany County on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred just after 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of a Crosby’s Gas Station, about 5 miles from the Pennsylvania border.
Police said they approached Groff, who was driving a 2000 black Chevy Silverado that had been reported stolen, while she was at the gas pump. She allegedly stabbed one trooper, identified as Jacob Klock, above the eye, and another trooper, Michael Rich, in the head.
Rich discharged a firearm but did not strike Groff, police said.
WIVB reports Klock and Rich are being treated at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with injuries. Police did not specify what Groff allegedly stabbed them with.
Groff’s charges include two counts of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault upon a police officer, two counts of menacing a police officer, fourth-degree grand larceny (motor vehicle), second-degree obstructing governmental administration, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and resisting arrest.
Groff is being held in the Allegany County Jail without bail, according to WETM. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, May 21, in the Town of Bolivar Court.
