A kangaroo that escaped from a Macon County petting zoo and ended up part of a two-vehicle crash before causing authorities to shut down interstate traffic while they tried to capture the animal.
Some Lufkin residents might have initially thought a kangaroo hopping down the road was actually a dog. But a police officer's dashboard camera showed that the marsupial was the real deal.

A runaway kangaroo that was involved in a two-vehicle crash shut down traffic in an Alabama county, authorities said.
Authorities responded to the crash at about noon Tuesday, April 29 in the southbound land of Interstate 85 in Macon County, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said in a news release.
Both southbound and northbound lanes had to be closed while troopers and the kangaroo’s owner tried to capture it, according to the release.
No one was injured in the crash, authorities told McClatchy News.
The kangaroo escaped from a nearby petting zoo, AL.com reported.
“When somebody said there’s a kangaroo. Of course I didn’t believe it, and nobody believed it, but I’m looking at him,” Brunson said in the video.
He said the kangaroo was tranquilized on a hill next to the interstate in Tuskegee before the video shows the owner carrying it in his arms.
“We see a little bit of everything here,” the sheriff said.
Tuskegee is about a 40-mile drive northeast from Montgomery.
