A Milwaukee police officer was seriously injured when he was struck by a cruiser during a chase over the weekend.
The incident happened just after 4 p.m. Saturday, when police tried to pull over a vehicle wanted in connection with a shooting and carjacking, WISN-TV reports. The driver sped away from officers and a chase ensued.
In an effort to stop the fleeing vehicle, an officer deployed stop sticks from a median. That's when the suspect jumped the median and headed in the direction of the officer.
The officer was able to avoid the fleeing vehicle, but in doing so, he was struck by a police cruiser involved in the chase.
He was rushed to the hospital, and his injuries were said to be serious but not fatal. He's expected to recover.
The fleeing vehicle was able to escape police, who continue to search for the suspect.
The crash involving the officer and the cruiser is under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
