Watch Injured Phoenix Police Officer Throw Out 1st Pitch in World Series

Phoenix Police Officer Tyler Moldovan, who was severely wounded in a 2021 shooting, received a standing ovation when he opened Game 5 of the World Series between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Texas Rangers.

A Phoenix police officer who was seriously wounded in a 2021 shooting threw out the first pitch at Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday.

Tyler Moldovan received a standing ovation when he opened the game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Texas Rangers, KPNX-TV reports. He was joined on the field by his wife, interim Police Chief Michael Sullivan, the city's mayor and Diamondbacks legend Luis Gonzalez.

Moldovan was shot multiple times by a suspect who opened fire when the officer was searching an apartment complex while responding to a report of a vehicle doing doughnuts. Moldovan had just turned 22 and had been with the department for a year and a half.

Following the shooting, he underwent months of treatment and rehabilitation. Last summer, Moldovan was released from a rehab center and returned home.

In Wednesday night's game, the Rangers defeated the Diamondbacks, 5-0, winning the team's first World Series title.
