A 29-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly fled a traffic stop, and Phoenix police apprehended him after he tried to jump across residential rooftops but fell into a recycling bin instead.

Phoenix police apprehended a man Tuesday who fled a traffic stop and then tried to elude officers by unsuccessfully jumping across residential rooftops

The unusual escape effort happened when police tried to pull over a man who refused to stop from officers, KPNX-TV reports. Officers didn't purse the suspect—identified as Jamie Chavira, 29—but his vehicle eventually was tracked down.

Chavira exited his vehicle and began running through backyards. He then climbed onto the roof of one home and tried jumping across to another rooftop.

His jump came up short, though, and he fell into a recycling bin. Chavira still tried to make a break for it, but officers deployed a K-9, and the suspect was taken into custody.

Chavira was treated at the hospital for a dog bite and booked into jail. Possible charges include resisting arrest and unlawful flight from a law enforcement officer.
