Phoenix Police Officer Attacked while Talking to Domestic Violence Victim

A Phoenix police officer was seriously injured when he was punched and kicked multiple times while talking to a woman who said she was assaulted by the attacker.

A Phoenix police officer was attacked and seriously injured while talking to a domestic violence victim Sunday.

The incident happened at about 9:30 p.m. when a Phoenix police officer was flagged down by a woman needing help, KPNX-TV reports. The woman explained that the father of her children had assaulted her.

While they were talking, the officer and woman were approached by the 24-year-old man accused of assaulting the victim. According to police, the man appeared highly agitated when he encountered the two.

That's when the suspect is accused of attacking the officer and sending him to the ground. The man continued punching multiple times, as well as kicking him, while the officer was on the ground.

The man eventually fled the scene, but he was apprehended by responding officers.

The assaulted officer was taken to the hospital, and his injuries were considered serious but not life-threatening.
