Watch Persistent Mo. Police Officer Rescue Raccoon with Head Stuck in Jar

March 6, 2023
The Oak Grove Police Department shared video footage of an officer chasing down a raccoon and safely removing a jar stuck on the animal's head.

A Missouri police officer working the midnight shift took time out to help a scavenging raccoon in a bit of a jam.

Oak Grove police posted a video on social media of an officer who recently encountered a raccoon with its head stuck inside a jar. The officer chased the animal within a 10-square-foot area to help, but the raccoon proved elusive.

Finally, the officer was able to catch up with the raccoon and safely pull the jar off its head.

Neither the raccoon nor the officer were injured in the incident.

"Midnight shifts for law enforcement can be idleness followed by a sudden foot chase without notice," the department stated. "No different for Oak Grove Officer (name not released for dignity’s sake) when faced with a scavenging mammal of the weasel family and a jar stuck over its head."
