A 29-year-old man forced his way into an Adams County home after a crash and then wrestled with Pennsylvania State Police while they Tasered him multiple times as they took him into custody.

A Maryland man is accused of attacking Pennsylvania State Police troopers who were trying to take him into custody after a violent, overnight break-in at an Adams County home, court documents said.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, the ordeal began when 29-year-old Eddie B. Thomas Jr., of Silver Springs, Maryland, crashed his car around 2 a.m. Thursday on the 400 block of Idaville York Springs Road in Huntington Township.

After the crash, Thomas knocked on a nearby front door and asked the homeowner for the help, the affidavit said. However, he allegedly forced his way inside and refused the homeowner’s repeated demands for him to leave.

Thomas became “extremely violent” and punched the homeowner three times in the head, the affidavit said. The court documents said Thomas also pushed the man into furniture, grabbed him by the arms and ripped the homeowner’s shirt off of him.

The affidavit said Thomas grabbed knives and scissors from inside the home and cut his wrists. When troopers arrived, the affidavit said, Thomas refused to allow himself to be taken into custody — even after he was Tased multiple times.

At one point, Thomas and the troopers started wrestling on the ground, the affidavit said. Court documents said one of the troopers was kicked in the chest multiple times. The affidavit said Thomas also tried to reach for one of the trooper’s guns.

A third trooper arrived and Tased Thomas again so he could be taken into custody, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit said one of the troopers had head, hip and wrist pain after the struggle with Thomas.

Thomas was charged with 13 offenses, including burglary, resisting arrest, disarming law enforcement, trespassing and related offenses.
