Folcroft police officers were after a man wanted for attempted murder when he exchanged gunfire with them—wounding an officer—stole a police vehicle and then abandoned it in New Jersey.

A Pennsylvania man wanted on attempted murder charges was shot by police overnight and an officer was also wounded following a pursuit from Pennsylvania into New Jersey.

Arthur Henry Disanto Jr., 41, allegedly shot a woman in her apartment in Media, Pennsylvania, on July 3 and he’s been on the loose ever since, according to information previously posted online about the case.

Police in Folcroft, Pennsylvania, encountered Disanto on Monday night as he was riding a motorcycle, according to media reports.

He fled from officers, but was later stopped in Southwest Philadelphia, where he allegedly shot at police, stole an unmarked police SUV and escaped into New Jersey.

The SUV was found in Deptford Township.

Disanto allegedly helped himself to a bulletproof vest from the vehicle and took off on foot, leading to an hours-long manhunt that ended in Washington Township, where authorities say he traded gunfire with police in front of a home on Blackwood-Barnsboro Road, near Washington Way Apartments, shortly before midnight.

Disanto is hospitalized, but is expected to survive. The wounded police officer, who has not been identified, suffered non-life threatening injuries, authorities confirmed.

Residents in Deptford and Washington townships were advised to remain in their homes as police from various jurisdictions scoured the area for Disanto on Monday night. No other injuries were reported.

In addition to attempted murder, Disanto is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment in the July incident.
