The Fulton County sergeant lost control of his patrol car while responding to a fight involving weapons.

A sergeant with the Fulton County Sheriff's Office was seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident en route to an early morning call.

The sergeant lost control of his patrol car about 12:35 a.m. in the 1300 block of Boat Rock Road, Fulton County police spokeswoman Cpl. Kay Lester said.

Channel 2 Action News reports that he was responding to a fight involving weapons when the patrol car overturned in someone's front yard.

The sergeant was able to contact emergency dispatch to tell them he'd wrecked and where he was, Lester said.

Emergency responders had to cut him out of the vehicle, she said.

The sergeant was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in serious condition and later released, authorities said.

Fulton County sheriff's officials said the sergeant is now recuperating at home.

The wreck is under investigation.
