Dashcam: Suspect Steals Fla. Police Vehicle from Station with K-9 Inside

  • A man allegedly stole a Jacksonville Beach police vehicle from a station parking lot with a K-9 and department firearms inside before officers tracked him down.

An Oklahoma police K-9 was injured after the dog was dragged by a fleeing suspect in a stolen vehicle over the weekend.

The incident happened Sunday when Oklahoma City police located a stolen truck with the driver still inside, the department stated in a social media post. At first, the suspect exited the truck, but then hopped back in an effort to escape police.

Sgt. Michael Moore deployed his K-9, Dash, who "fiercely engaged the suspect right in the driver's seat," the department stated. Police released harrowing body camera footage of Dash's encounter.

"Talk about incredible determination—Dash refused to let go, even as the suspect hit the gas and took off," the department added.

The suspect dragged Dash "a significant distance down the road" until the dog lost its grip. Moore rushed Dash to an emergency veterinary clinic, and he was treated for road rash on his paws. 

"Dash's bravery disrupted the getaway, and ended with the suspect in handcuffs and a bag of meth recovered from the scene," the department stated.
