Bodycam: Okla. Police K-9 Dragged by Suspect Fleeing in Stolen Truck

An Oklahoma City police K-9 suffered road rash on his paws after a suspect allegedly drove off in a stolen truck with the dog still holding onto the suspect.

What to Know

  • An Oklahoma City police K-9 named Dash was injured after being dragged by a suspect who fled in a stolen truck during a weekend encounter.
  • Sgt. Michael Moore deployed Dash after the suspect briefly exited the vehicle and then jumped back inside in an attempt to escape, according to police bodycam footage.
  • Dash's actions helped disrupt the getaway, and the suspect was arrested after the dog suffered road rash while being dragged; police also recovered a bag of methamphetamine.

"Talk about incredible determination—Dash refused to let go, even as the suspect hit the gas and took off," the department added.

The suspect dragged Dash "a significant distance down the road" until the dog lost its grip. Moore rushed Dash to an emergency veterinary clinic, and he was treated for road rash on his paws.

"Dash's bravery disrupted the getaway, and ended with the suspect in handcuffs and a bag of meth recovered from the scene," the department stated.
