The Miami Police Department hopes a new treatment will help one of its K-9s recover from a chronic and nagging caused by an injury

The department K-9, Breacher, underwent radiosynoviorthesis Monday at an animal surgical center in Miami-Dade County, WPLG-TV reports. While on duty, Breacher fractured an elbow and now suffers from painful arthritis.

“It’s basically taking away all the inflammation and the different factors that cause pain,” said Dr. Mario Cabrera about the procedure.

Breacher was placed under anesthesia and a needle is put into the effected joint. The veterinarian then injects Tin-117m into the joint fluid.

Cabrera hopes other police departments know that radiosynoviorthesis is an option for certain injuriess and issues K-9s might encounter
