The woman was rushed to the hospital and is expected to recover. It's unclear if the driver, who remained at the scene, faces any charges.

In a social media post, Police Chief David Madonna praised the fast action of the citizens.

"Thank you to this group of people who shined a bright light on Prospect Park Borough," he wrote. "We cannot thank you enough for your service to the community and for potentially putting yourselves in harms way to aid another human being."

Madonna also lauded the work of those involved while talking about the incident during a press conference.

"All too often we're pointing out people's mistakes and not really giving people a fair shake and here, we have true heroes who definitely helped this woman in a time of need," he said.
