A Los Angeles County deputy's body camera captured a frightening confrontation last month with a knife-wielding suspect who was fatally shot after stabbing the deputy.

The incident happened shortly after 2 p.m. June 20 when deputies responded to reports about a man armed with multiple knives attacking bystanders in Lancaster, according to the sheriff's department, which released footage from the call Tuesday. Once deputies reached the scene, the suspect, later later identified as Robert Castro, walked away across a parking lot.

A deputy followed Castro into the parking lot, and the charged at a deputy and began stabbing him with a knife. The deputy opened fire, and Castro was struck.

The suspect fell to the ground, and a second deputy shot and struck Castro. The second deputy then checked on his wounded colleague, who was bleeding from a stab wound.

Castro was rushed to the hospital, where was pronounced dead. The wounded deputy also was taken to the hospital and treated for a stab wound. 

The incident is under investigation.
