A Minnesota police department released body camera footage that captured a stairway shootout with a suspect who shot and wounded an officer last month.

The shooting happened June 18 after Mankato police had tried to stop Jordan Michael Donahue for speeding, with the suspect fleeing to St. Peter, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. He then stopped at residence of an acquaintance and ran inside.

Body camera footage shows St. Peter Police Officer Austin Buss and Nicollet County Sheriff's Sgt. Dustin Struckman going to the home and encountering a woman and a girl. After escorting them out, the officers entered the house and began looking for Donahue.

As Buss and Struckman climbed the stairs to the second floor, Donahue opened fire with a shotgun. Buss was struck in the arm and ballistic vest before returning fire. Struckman also fired shots at Donahue.

The body camera footage only shows the moments leading up to the shooting. A message in the video explains that the footage following was not released because of its graphic nature. 

Buss and Struckman exited the home after the exchange of gunfire, and other officers worked to get Donahue to surrender. A drone was deployed when attempts to contact him failed, and he was found dead from a gunshot wound.

A shotgun and spent casings were recovered inside the home.

Buss was rushed to the hospital following the shooting before being airlifted to a medical facility in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. He was released and escorted home by hundreds of law enforcement officers on June 25.

The shooting is still under investigation.
