That's when police breached the door and entered the apartment. They searched the unit and found the woman being held at knifepoint by Miller inside a bathroom.
“Don’t rush in here!" Miller told police. "I have a knife to her neck!"
When Miller refused to release the woman and surrender, an officer entered the bathroom and fired a round. Miller was struck, and he was pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving measures by officers and medics.
The woman was taken to the hospital, where she was treated and released. No officers were injured during the incident.
"These officers met the highest expectations that the public has for their heroic service," Butler County Prosecutor Mike Gmoser told WXIX
According to police, Miller had an extensive criminal history, which included charges for aggravated murder, aggravated robbery and felonious assault. He had been on parole for weapons and drug offenses.
The shooting is under invesigation.
