ATLANTA -- Atlanta police officers arrested a convicted felon following a traffic stop that escalated into a brief foot pursuit on Jan. 22.

At approximately 6:42 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop of a Nissan Altima at 538 Lee Street SW after determining the driver was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, according to a news release.

Police said the driver disobeyed officers’ commands and attempted to flee on foot before being quickly apprehended.

The driver was identified as Sylvon Brush, born July 1995. During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered more than four pounds of marijuana and a firearm, according to the Atlanta Police Department.

Police said Brush is a convicted felon and was taken into custody at the scene. He was charged with driving while license suspended, pedestrian in the roadway, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, willful obstruction of law enforcement officers, and possession of marijuana.

Brush was transported to the Fulton County Jail. No injuries were reported.
