Undercover officers for a Florida sheriff's office were on their way to execute a warrant earlier this month when they stopped to pull a trapped couple to safety following a serious two-vehicle collision.
The rescue happened at around 9:45 a.m. July 17 as detectives from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office's Vice Unit and Street Level Narcotics were on their way to serve a warrant, the agency stated in a news release. When the detectives saw the aftermath of a crash in which an SUV flipped over, they immediately stopped to help.
In recently released body camera footage, the detectives worked to extricate two people trapped inside the SUV. Patrol Medic Brooke Mallory, who had been going on the warrant call for safety, used medical training to help the two.
The couple was eventually treated by medics who arrived at the scene.
After they provided assitance, the detectives continued on to execute the warrant.
"Without seat belts and the quick actions of first responders, this situation could have ended much worse," the sheriff's office stated.
