Watch Colo. Police Capture Runaway Kangaroo after 'Hot Pursuit'
By Ajia Cuevas
Source The Gazette (Colorado Springs, Colo.)
A furry "escape artist" made a return appearance in Durango this week, hopping around town before being captured by police.
The Durango Police Department announced on Facebook that officers wrangled a kangaroo after he was seen "bouncing his way through town." The marsupial made headlines last year after he previously escaped his owners and was on the move again.
"Naturally, our officers responded to the call (again), safely wrangled him (again), and made sure he was in good hands — because public safety, even with paws and a pouch, is still public safety," the post read.
In a video posted by the department, a Durango officer can be seen carrying the "viral hopper" to a patrol truck, then placing the "repeat offender" in the back seat.
"We can’t say we saw 'kangaroo roundup' in the job description, but here we are. All in a day’s work. Applause to Officer Garrison who flexed and showed us who could lift the not-so-little guy," officials said in the post. The 'roo has officially earned the title of Durango’s Most Unexpected Repeat Offender, the department wrote.
In Colorado, red kangaroos are among the list of mammals you can legally own within the state. See the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Legal Mammals list here.
