WATERBURY, CT — Police on Wednesday released a series of dash and body-worn camera videos showing a portion of a police pursuit that resulted in a crash downtown on April 23.
Dante Walton, 29, of Waterbury was arrested following the crash on Grand Street after he jumped out of the truck and fled on foot behind the Silas Bronson Library, according to police.
Walton is charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving, assault on a police officer, interfering with police and first-degree criminal trover.
Waterbury police said officers were notified of a stolen box truck on the 100 block of South Main Street at 11:46 a.m. Arriving officers found that the truck, which was registered to a contractor performing work at the location, had been taken from the scene, police said.
In the videos, released on the department's Instagram page, officers can be seen trying to use stop sticks to halt the stolen truck, but it continued to evade officers, headed down Meadow Street and onto Grand Street, where it crashed into a police cruiser and several parked cars in front of the library.
Walton remains held in lieu of $750,000 bail and his next court date is June 2.
