Two Texas police officers rescued siblings trapped inside a mobile home that was engulfed in flames early Tuesday.
Vidor Police Officers Michael Stephenson and Ashton Moss were the first to respond to a mobile home fire shortly before 2 a.m., KBMT-TV reports. The mother of two boys told the officers that the children were still inside the mobile home's front bedroom.
"When I got there, I saw everything was just one big ball of fire. I saw him [Stephenson] try to open the window so I just ran over to him," Moss told the news outlet.
As flames began to consume the mobile home, Stephenson quickly began to try to pry an air-conditioner out of a window. Following a brief struggle, he was able to push it through inside the home.
"I couldn't hear them. The fire was loud. It was right there, so we were just trying to get that open because that was our only way in," said Stephenson.
First, the 9-year-old reached the window, then his brother. The officers pulled both of them to safety.
"Luckily, the kids were right there just inside the window, so we were able to pull them out and rush them out to the road," said Moss.
Once the boys were rescued, the fire swept through the bedroom, with flames shooting through the window.
"Thank you for saving me," the 9-year-old boy told the officers.
The boys were taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation before being released.
