Sept. 8, 2022
Simi Valley police officers had to deal with an unusual intruder with a sweet tooth when a bear barged into a home and forced a mom and her son to lock themselves in a bedroom.
California police had to deal with an unusual intruder Sunday after a bear entered a family's home and ate a cake before officers scared it away.
The incident happened at about 10 a.m. when a resident called Simi Valley police concerning a bear that had broken into the house and forced the woman and her son to lock themselves in a bedroom, the department stated in an online post. Police had received two calls the previous day about bear sightings in the area.
When officers reached the house, they saw the bear in the kitchen after it apparently ate a freshly baked cake and was going through the refrigerator. The officers' presence startled the bear, and the animal fled out a door, into the backyard and up a tree.
The bear climbed down the tree after about 10 minutes and headed to the hills, the department stated. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife was alerted to the incident.
