Watch Ariz. Police Carry Elderly Woman Away from Apartment Fire

Body camera footage captured Chandler police responding to a fire at an apartment complex and helping residents escape the flames, including carrying a woman with a walker down stairs to safety.

Arizona police helped evacuate a burning apartment building earlier this month, and body camera footage shows officers carrying an elderly woman down stairs to escape the fire.

Chandler police were part of the response to a June 18 fire at an apartment complex, and the department released audio from the 9-1-1 call alerting first responders, KNXV-TV reports. When officers reached the scene, they quickly began to clear out the units and lead residents to safety.

On Monday, the department released body camera showing officers moving quickly through the complex to make sure no one was trapped inside as smoke and flames can be seen shooting from the building.

During the footage, officers are seen helping an elderly occupant with a walker escape the fire. The officers initially escort her out of the building before they finally pick her up and carry her down the stairs.

Firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading throughout the building, but smoke damaged many of the surrounding units. Investigators are trying to determine the fire's cause.
