Modern weaponry can transfer high kinetic energy to body armor. Upon impact, ballistic protection absorbs some of the energy and in the process typically deforms inward, toward the wearer. These inward deflections in body armor cause blunt trauma injuries. Blunt trauma injuries can cause death.
Conventional body armor(vests) worn by police do not protect the abdominal and groin regions. Arteries exist there that are difficult for surgeons to repair. Get shot there and you can bleed out and die. We designed the Variable Shield System™ and Police Head and Neck Protector ™(PHNP™) and Police Body Protector™(PBP™) to be used in conjunction with ballistic vests to protect these areas as well as the head and neck regions.
For projectiles impacting the head and neck regions, concurrent during impact, shock waves mitigate through the brain causing Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), as well as through the neck, eyes and mouth. To counteract these head and neck impacts, we are developing the G-SHOCK™ device.
