Sept. 27, 2023
A Tallahassee police was seriously wounded but is expected to recover when a 25-year-old man allegedly opened fire during a foot chase following a home invasion robbery.

Florida police arrested a man Tuesday accused of shooting and seriously wounding an officer in an ambush during a home invasion robbery earlier this week.

John'Darious Wright, 25, is charged with attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, attempted first-degree murder, home invasion robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and obstruction of a search warrant, according to the Tallahassee Police Department. He is being held at the Leon County Detention Facility.

On Monday, Wright and several suspects allegedly entered a residence and fired a shot at the victims inside the home, police said. An officer responding to the scene saw a suspect fleeing on foot and gave chase.

During the pursuit, Wright came out from the home and opened fire, seriously wounding the officer. Wright and the other suspects then continued fleeing.

Tallahassee police and agents from U.S. Marshals Service were able to locate Wright and another suspect hours after the shooting. An investigation identified Wright as the shooter, and he was arrested and charged. The second suspect was released from custody.

The wounded officer is in stable condition following the shooting and is expected to recover.

The incident is still under investigation.
