Two Mo. Officers Under Investigation, on Leave

The St. Clair County Sheriff's Department is investigating the conduct of two Freeburg police officers, the department confirmed on Wednesday.

May 30--FREEBURG -- The St. Clair County Sheriff's Department is investigating the conduct of two Freeburg police officers, the department confirmed on Wednesday.

Freeburg Police Chief Mel Woodruff declined to state the reason for the investigation. The two unidentified officers are on paid administrative leave.

Capt. Steve Johnson, the St. Clair County Sheriff's lead investigator, said the investigation was requested by the Freeburg police department.

"The criminal investigation has been turned over to the St. Clair County state's attorney for review, and they have requested further follow up to be conducted by our department," Johnson said.

St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly didn't immediately respond to questions on Wednesday.
