May 17--A 53-year-old Lake Ronkonkoma man with 23 license suspensions, including a current revocation for a DWI conviction, was arrested early Thursday morning in Mount Sinai and charged with felony driving while intoxicated, Suffolk County police said.

Police said Kurt A. Knoernschild of 510B Round Pond Rd. was arrested by Officer Steven Turner of the police SAFE-T Section after his 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck made a left turn through a red light at the intersection of County Road 83 and Coram-Mount Sinai Road at about 1:45 a.m. Thursday. Police said Turner followed Knoernschild, who was "driving erratically," before stopping him on Route 25A near Westgate Drive.

Knoernschild was charged with felony DWI and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, also a felony charge. His truck was seized because of prior DWI convictions, police said.

Knoernschild was held at the Sixth Precinct and faces arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Central Islip.
