MILLBROOK, Ala. -- A Monroeville man has been charged with assault on a federal officer in connection with a shooting incident Tuesday involving U.S. marshals.

U.S. Marshal Arthur D. Baylor announced the arrest of Marcus Dupree Curry on Tuesday evening. Curry will appear today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Terry F. Moorer, according to a news release from Baylor's office.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting incident, which took place at the intersection of Alabama 14 and Interstate 65 about midday Tuesday. A traffic accident also occurred at the location. No further information about the wreck or shooting was available Tuesday.

The exit ramp on I-65 North was closed and traffic from the I-65 South exit ramp was turned west for about four hours as law enforcement personnel worked the scene.

Results of the ABI investigation will be forwarded to the district attorney's office for review, said Sgt. Steve Jarrett, an Alabama Department of Public Safety spokesman.

District Attorney Randall Houston said marshals were attempting to serve a murder warrant and the suspect attempted to flee.

Houston's office will review the ABI investigation, and the case will be presented to a future Elmore County grand jury.
