LONDON -- Britain's police watchdog says a misconduct inquiry has found six officers in London smashed up a suspect's car with baseball bats and an ax handle.

But the Independent Police Complaints Commission said Wednesday that none of the police involved would lose their jobs, though a sergeant will be demoted to constable.

The incident in north London was captured on video, and shows how the officers wielded weapons to detain a suspect in his car and then smashed a window.

Details were disclosed in the first disciplinary hearings to result from a three-year-long corruption and misconduct inquiry into a police unit in north London.

The watchdog said 16 officers and one civilian have been investigated so far, but that no one has been charged with any criminal offense.
