OMAHA, Neb. --

Omaha police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that sent one person to a hospital Thursday evening.

Officers arrived at 3312 X St. for a report of a disturbance around 6:20 p.m. That's where, police said, they found a man wearing a pirate suit, armed with a sword. Police identified that man as Jonathan Martis, 38.

Police said Officer Troy Hiller ordered Martis to drop the sword but he refused. When Martis advanced on officers, police said, Hiller deployed a Taser, but it appeared to have no effect on Martis. Police said Martis continued to advance on officers, and Hiller discharged his firearm.

Paramedics took Martis to Creighton University Medical Center in critical condition, but investigators said he's expected to recover from his injuries. Police said at last check Martis was in stable condition.

Police said Martis called 911 to report the disturbance, then allegedly told witnesses he was going to harm officers.

Per Omaha Police Department policy, Hiller will be placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
