Palm Beach County, FL - The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is introducing SmartWater CSI into three communities, relying on the proven forensic coding theft deterrent to catch and put pressure on criminals and the fences that buy stolen property.
SmartWater products are forensically encoded liquids used by residents and businesses to mark property that may be stolen during a burglary, as well as a spray system that can be used for covert police operations and commercial businesses.
“We have been watching SmartWater decrease theft since it was first launched in the United States last year,” said Sheriff Ric Bradshaw. “The use of the latest technology is important for us if we are to reduce crime in Palm Beach County. I am committed to providing this agency with the tools and resources to make it one of the most modern, advanced and effective agencies in the country. The use of SmartWater technology is a perfect fit.”
SmartWater is a non-hazardous liquid that is virtually impossible to remove and leaves a long-lasting identifying mark that is invisible except under ultraviolet black light. Law enforcement officials can take the smallest micro-fragment of SmartWater from stolen property and send it to SmartWater’s forensic laboratories, where it can be scientifically analyzed to identify the owner. As a result, thieves who make the calculated mistake of targeting SmartWater marked-assets face a far greater risk of successful prosecution. Ultimately, as the statistics in the UK over the past 17 years exhibit, crime is reduced and the public enjoys a safer environment.
SmartWater contains a unique forensic code that is extremely robust and guaranteed to last a minimum of 5 years within all weather conditions. The technology does not contain organic DNA-based materials, which are degradable under sunlight and can be affected by temperature, oxygenation and other environmental factors.
“We commend Sheriff Bradshaw for embracing new technology in the interest of his community,“ states Logan Pierson, President of SmartWater CSI. “As more and more law enforcement agencies incorporate SmartWater in their fight against crime, the better and safer our communities will become.”
Neighborhoods protected by SmartWater will display highly visible signs to warn thieves that SmartWater technology is in use. When thieves see that property is protected by SmartWater, it will deter them from committing crime in the area. Word will travel that identification by SmartWater increases their chance of arrest and prosecution. If they do steal SmartWater protected property, it will only be a matter of time until they are caught and convicted.
Additional law enforcement agencies successfully utilizing SmartWater include: Broward Crime Stoppers, Broward Sheriff’s Office and the cities of Boynton Beach, Coral Gables, Fort Lauderdale, Hallandale Beach, Hollywood, Margate, Miramar, North Miami Beach, Riviera Beach, Wilton Manors and Winter Park.
